  • Creative Writing and Literature

Enthusiasts of poetry, dramatic writing, screenwriting, short stories, and Shakespeare will find a vibrant home within our diverse range of creative writing and literature analysis classes. These courses are offered through both our English department—featuring AP and honors coursework—and our theater department, which frequently showcases student-created works.

  • Theater

VIP has a lively and popular theater program, replete with multiple live productions throughout the school year, including a spring musical. Led by acclaimed theater professional Gilles Chiasson, our highly collaborative program creates opportunities to develop communication and interpretive skills as actors, directors, writers, and technicians.

  • Communication Arts

One of VIPHS’s proudest traditions is its multi-award-winning speech and debate program. Our students also thrive at poetry, having claimed first place at Los Angeles’ prestigious GetLit competition. Beyond debate and poetry, VIPHS offers a dynamic array of rotating electives that inspire creativity and innovation.

  • Visual Arts

The visual arts hold a prominent place within VIPHS’s vibrant arts community. We offer exceptional instruction in 2-D media and fine arts, along with rigorous AP Studio Art courses. Our visual arts students frequently showcase their work in gallery exhibitions that coincide with performing arts events and school wide celebrations.
